Iditarod Volunteers Working the Load Out

5 time Iditarod Champion Rick Swenson's food bags are headed for Skwentna Alaska via the Iditarod Air Force!

The 2009 Iditarod Race "Behind the Race" is On!

Thousands of pounds of food drop bags were batched, weighed, and sorted last week.  Over the weekend the Iditarod Air Force began airlifting food, straw, and a host of other necessities to checkpoints along the first third of the Iditarod Trail.  Yentna, Skwentna, Finger Lake and Rainy Pass saw a lot of Iditarod activity. Iditarod's Canine Athletes Take Their Final Exam

Before their March 7th, 2009 debut.  Each four legged athlete is required to undergo an electrocardiogram as well as extensive blood testing prior to the race.  This is the first of a number of veterinary safety nets that the Iditarod has in place in order to provide the very best possible continuum of care for the greatest athletes on the planet… the dogs!
